The local government of Aklan is considering phasing out all gas-powered tricycles in the popular tourist destination of Boracay, in favor of more eco-friendly electric vehicles, according to a report on Unang Balita.
Authorities assert that the locals are fully behind the initiative, with some 140 units already deployed.
Some tricycle drivers have raised concerns over malfunctioning batteries, but the local government says it is looking to resolve the problem. The importer is planning solar powered recharging stations to further reduce the environmental impact.
